Invited perspectives: Managed realignment as a solution to mitigate coastal flood risks – optimizing success through knowledge co-production

چکیده

Abstract. Nature-based solutions are increasingly suggested for mitigating coastal flood risks in the face of climate change. Managed realignment (MR), a adaptation strategy that entails landward defences to restore habitats (often salt marshes), plays pivotal role implementing nature-based zone. Across Europe, more than 130 sites have been implemented so far, often harness their potential mitigate while restoring (ABPmer, 2021). However, local communities oppose MR projects, not only because they seen as returning hard-won land sea but also protection function is less trusted traditional hard engineering techniques. This scepticism has foundation. The proclaimed MRs based on broad body literature protective natural marshes. contrary marshes, semi-enclosed tidal basins with narrow breaches open sea/estuary. Recent studies indicate MR-internal hydrodynamics may significantly reduce protection, depending design. To successfully implement MR, much-improved scientific knowledge base needed, well process addressing community concerns and genuinely engaging stakeholders decision-making beyond usual obligatory consultancy approach. Here, we propose co-production optimize success promote acceptance.

Coastal Flood Risks and Seasonal Tourism

Since coastal tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors of tourism industry, coastal areas have become increasingly vulnerable in case of flooding. Yet, coastal tourism is a seasonal phenomenon, with variations according to climate, holiday seasons and seasonal traditions. Despite its relevance in environmental issues, the effects of seasonal tourism have only scarcely been studied in coast...

Minority Acquisitions as a Strategy to Mitigate International Acquisition Risks

International acquisitions are attractive because they allow quick entry into foreign markets. However, they are also a strategy that is fraught with high risks. Given the size and growth of investments in international acquisitions, scholars have sought to identify ways to reduce the risks in international acquisitions. The objective of this study is to examine one variation of international a...

Responses of an Agricultural Soil Microbiome to Flooding with Seawater after Managed Coastal Realignment

Coastal areas have become more prone to flooding with seawater due to climate-change-induced sea-level rise and intensified storm surges. One way to cope with this issue is by "managed coastal realignment", where low-lying coastal areas are no longer protected and instead flooded with seawater. How flooding with seawater impacts soil microbiomes and the biogeochemical cycling of elements is poo...

Implications of using on-farm flood flow capture to recharge groundwater and mitigate flood risks along the Kings River, CA.

The agriculturally productive San Joaquin Valley faces two severe hydrologic issues: persistent groundwater overdraft and flooding risks. Capturing flood flows for groundwater recharge could help address both of these issues, yet flood flow frequency, duration, and magnitude vary greatly as upstream reservoir releases are affected by snowpack, precipitation type, reservoir volume, and flood ris...

Dynamic Verifier Core: A Practical Solution to Mitigate the Risks of Software Risk Management Process

Risk management is considered as a crucial activ ity in all types of software development processes. While risk management plans are proposed to control and mitigate the risks, they may face some risks too. According to the formal reports, the remarkable rate of failure in IT projects shows the relative unsuccessfulness in the risk management process. This indicates the necessity of improvement...
